While PSG completed the extension of several executives recently, negotiations have slowed down with Gianluigi Donnarumma and his recent use by Luis Enrique could well have an impact on his future.
Arriving at PSG in the summer of 2021 following a Euro won with Italy, Gianluigi Donnarumma first experienced the alternation with Keylor Navas before spending two seasons in the shoes of the holder. But by investing 20 million euros in Matvey Safonov last summer, PSG wanted to challenge their Italian goalkeeper and send him the message that he was no longer indisputable.
If in fact, Luis Enrique had made him his number 1 goalkeeper since the start of the season, the Spaniard started the Russian three times in November: against Lens, Toulouse then Bayern Munich. A match in which Safonov made several important saves, but was at fault for the only goal of the match, on an aerial error “La Donnarumma”.
As the PSG/Nantes match on Saturday looms, but especially very important matches in December against Salzburg, OL and Monaco, the management of PSG goalkeepers will be closely scrutinized in the coming days. Present at a press conference this Friday from 1 p.m., Luis Enrique will inevitably be questioned on the subject.
Donnarumma affected and ultimately not extended?
In today's edition, L'Equipe returns to the « malaise » Donnarumma and claims that he was touched by the Munich episode. To the point of calling into question his extension at PSG, who had already been on standby for a few weeks? According to the sports daily, the Italian questions the club's esteem for him and this is not new, the Italian having not felt much confidence from the staff in recent months.
According to Le Parisien, Donnarumma went back to work this Thursday and did not broadcast the slightest “bad vibe”. His entourage has also explained to several media that he has not yet fully recovered from his intestinal virus, even if this does not seem to be the main reason for the choice of Luis Enrique against Toulouse and Bayern.
“Not sure that his current playing time won’t encourage him to put his stamp on a piece of paper…”adds Le Parisien, in reference to its extension. Not sure either that PSG is rushing to extend a goalkeeper that Luis Enrique no longer sees as untouchable and who is still under contract until 2026.
It should be noted, however, that PSG recently completed or made very good progress on the extensions of two other players at the end of their contract in 2026: Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes. The fact that negotiations have been stopped or slowed down regarding Donnarumma is not insignificant and reflects, at a minimum, the doubts of the different parties.
