The explicit recognition of Moroccan sovereignty by strategic partners marks a decisive turning point
Awareness: According to Brahim Fassi Fihri, the vast outpouring of international support for the Moroccan Sahara Autonomy Initiative under Moroccan sovereignty reflects an increased awareness within the international community: the Moroccan Sahara is, and will remain, an integral part, inseparable and inalienable from the Kingdom of Morocco.
Sovereignty and resilience are two words that appear simple to understand, but which contain the desire of people to remain masters of their destiny, to recover and move forward despite headwinds. This is how Brahim Fassi Fihri, founding president of the Amadeus Institute, expressed himself during the official opening of the sixteenth edition of the MEDays Forum, organized on Wednesday, November 27 in Tangier, under the theme “Sovereignties and resilience : towards a new global balance”. Regarding sovereignty, “under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, may God help him, Morocco has been able to transform its Sahara into a strategic pillar, not only on the diplomatic level but also in terms of regional development and continental integrated,” he said. The international dynamic of support for the Moroccan character of the Sahara illustrated by the explicit recognition, said Mr. Fassi Fihri, of Moroccan sovereignty by strategic partners such as the United States, Spain and more recently France, marks a decisive turning point in this matter.
“This vast outpouring of international support for the Moroccan Sahara Autonomy Initiative under Moroccan sovereignty reflects an increased awareness within the international community: the Moroccan Sahara is, and will remain, an integral, inseparable and inalienable part of the Kingdom of Morocco,” he explained, noting that ultimately, “the Moroccan Sahara is not only a symbol of sovereignty, it is the engine of an ambition that many African countries have shared: that of transforming challenges into opportunities and building a future where development and unity prevail.” Among these many countries is the Union of the Comoros, a brother country and faithful friend, which fervently supports the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Morocco. “My country, the Union of the Comoros, has always supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over the Sahara,” said Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros, while rejoicing at the recognition by “the world powers and very recently by France of Moroccan sovereignty over its Sahara”.
For her part, Suminwa Tuluka Judith, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who expressed her deep gratitude to HM King Mohammed VI and the organizers for the continued holding of this annual space of enriching and meaningful exchanges. is congratulated on the fraternal relations and cooperation uniting his country with Morocco. “In this framework, relations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Kingdom of Morocco, based on fraternal ties and common values of cooperation, mutual respect and solidarity, continue to strengthen, thus opening new perspectives for collaboration in many areas to build a better future for our respective peoples”, she said, while wishing to underline the importance of the MEDays Forum, which over the years has become “an essential meeting place for reflections on major global challenges we face. Placed under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this forum, like the fifteen previous editions, aims to give pride of place to priority subjects and deepen the continental and global conversation on the consolidation of national or regional sovereignties and the construction of shared resilience between countries in order to be able to cope with the crises they face.
Indeed, as the world evolves towards an assumed multipolarity, economic, political and social sovereignty becomes the basis on which nations can build models of resilience adapted to their realities,” explained Amadou Oury Bah, Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea, noting that the MEDays forum “perfectly embodies the need to think collectively about the future based on the realities of the countries of the South”. Note that MEDays 2024 brings together more than 250 very high-level speakers including heads of state and government, political decision-makers, Nobel Prize winners, leaders of large international companies and influential personalities to debate geostrategic subjects during of around fifty sessions scheduled during the four days of the forum.
