- You recently joined forces with UM6P to promote teaching and education professions in Morocco. Can we have a concrete idea about this project?
As you know, Morocco and France signed, during the visit of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, a declaration on an exceptional renewed partnership. The idea is to prepare for the next 25 years. Preparing for the future obviously begins with education and youth. For our part, we are doing our part. Hence the partnership between OSUI and UM6P. We have thus joined our efforts to be able to develop teaching both in Morocco and in Africa.
There is within our network a set of trainers who will be able to provide their expertise as we have been able to structure it in order to build training programs. Today, we have nearly twelve experts who have accumulated extensive experience in Morocco. I would like to remind you that OSUI belongs to the Mlf world network made up of 108 establishments and 68,000 students. So we also bring international expertise based around multilingualism, science and the use of digital technology in learning techniques.
All of this will be put to the service of our cooperation with the UM6P. As we created a school together, it is about making it a model of education with Moroccan teachers trained to modern standards. This is the basis of our partnership which we can gradually expand thereafter.
By joining forces with UM6P, we are combining two excellences. I remind you that we are here to work together, that is to say that our partnership consists of both parties contributing to designing the educational model.
- How did this project come about in the beginning?
From there, we said to ourselves that we had to go even further. Hence the idea of a teacher training program. I’ll give you a concrete example. We have implemented a teacher skills certification program. It is important to strengthen diploma certification. These are contributions that can be made quickly.
As you know, we are looking for teachers to train and, above all, adapt to rapid developments in teaching techniques. We need to work together to see together what type of training and diplomas we would like to put in place. We can imagine many points of convergence. The objective is also to draw inspiration from the work of UM6P researchers in this area.
- -Today, there is a lot of talk about digitalization in Morocco where pioneering schools are increasingly integrating digital teaching. How are you working to convert the schools in your network to digital education?
Our approach is based on two key terms: ambition and discernment. It takes ambition to be able to appropriate new technologies and make use of them since they are essential today. It is vital that students are educated and trained to live in their environment. This is why they must be equipped with as many digital skills as possible. Discernment consists of having enough perspective to know how to use new digital tools. It’s a question of subtle balance to find. It is important to instill in children a critical approach to the use of digital technology. The same goes for teachers whose training must take into consideration the imperative of mastering digital tools for transmission with academic knowledge.
- -Today, the French-speaking world is in decline in Morocco. Does this relative decline concern you as a French-speaking network?
Like English, French always brings modernity at all levels, including digital. With UM6P, we will design innovative programs in both languages. At the same time, we are ensuring that we strengthen the learning of the Arabic language, which will have a more important role in the programs that we will put in place.
