During the 10th Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations in Cascais, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, highlighted the central place of Africa in Morocco’s strategic vision.

Morocco has asserted itself as a committed actor in the Alliance of Civilizations since its launch in 2005, actively contributing to promoting intercultural dialogue and world peace.

Highlighting the continent’s challenges and promises, the Moroccan official insisted on the importance of further integrating Africa into international discussions.

For Mr. Bourita, Africa represents “ a living promise for herself and for the world.”

As a crucible of major contemporary issues – youth, climate, food security, migration and interfaith dialogue – the continent deserves increased attention.

However, he deplored its low representation within the Alliance of Civilizations, where only 20% of the members of the Group of Friends come from Africa.

This situation, according to him, does not reflect the crucial importance of Africa in global debates.

He therefore called for a review of this representativeness to align discussions with global realities.

The minister also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to defending the interests of the continent, while acting as a bridge between Africa and the rest of the world.

In this perspective, he recalled that the centrality of Africa is part of the diplomatic priorities of the Kingdom under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

Faced with global challenges, such as climate, health or humanitarian crises, Mr. Bourita pleaded for a geopolitics of solidarity, a principle which also guides Moroccan initiatives in favor of peace and dialogue, on a regional and international.
