Justine Mettraux suffered damage during the Vendée Globe. The Geneva skipper saw her front sail tear and it is now unusable.

Already busy with a repair on Tuesday, Justine Mettraux alerted her TeamWork – Team Snef team on Wednesday at 6:15 a.m. of the loss of her front sail. She was able to bring the damaged equipment back on board without noticing any further damage to the boat, but will have to deal with her remaining sail set, her team informed in a press release.

At the 11:00 a.m. check-in on Wednesday, the 38-year-old sailor was ranked 13th, 550 miles from leader Charlie Dalin and was moving at a reduced speed compared to her direct opponents (11.8 knots).

Further on, Alan Roura is 26th, more than 1,500 miles from the lead. The third Swiss entered in this Vendée Globe, Oliver Heer, is in provisional 35th place.

24-hour distance record broken

The Frenchman Sébastien Simon returned close to the runner-up Thomas Ruyant. Taking full advantage of the depression caught by the front of the fleet, Simon crushed the record for the distance covered in 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday with 604.62 miles (or 1119.75 kilometers) covered in the South Atlantic.
