The agreement was signed by Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate for the Budget, and Olivér Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement. This funding is intended to support reconstruction efforts in regions affected by the earthquake of September 8, 2023.
This agreement complements a first payment of 380 million dirhams (35.6 million euros) made in December 2023, thus bringing total EU aid to more than 2.4 billion dirhams in donations (225 million euros). euros). A call for proposals intended for civil society organizations, with a budget of more than 60 million dirhams (5.7 million euros), was launched to promote the preservation and enhancement of local heritage as well as to strengthen the community participation in reconstruction efforts.
The signing of this agreement is part of efforts related to the mobilization of the necessary resources for the rehabilitation of essential infrastructure and basic services in the region, indicates a press release from the Ministry of Finance and the Economy.
This program, spanning two years (2024-2025), aims to:
– Support individuals identified as affected by the earthquake so that they can access a rehabilitated or reconstructed home,
– Contribute to the restart of public services (health and education) in functional buildings,
– Contribute to the revival and dynamism of economic activity and territorial cohesion in areas affected by the earthquake.
