Mr. Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani is thus re-elected for a second presidential term of five years, after having obtained 554,956 votes out of a total of approximately 1.07 million voters during the Saturday vote, said the CENI during a press conference dedicated to the publication of the provisional results of the vote.

The number of voters in this election reached 1,074,208 out of a total of 1,939,342 registered, after the counting of all the ballots at more than 4,500 polling stations spread across Mauritania and in some countries abroad, said the president of the CENI, Dah Ould Abdel Jelil.

The validated ballots are of the order of 988,813, while the invalid and blank ballots numbered respectively at 53,787 and 31,608, he added, noting that the participation rate during the presidential election of June 29 ‘is established at 55.6%.

Candidate Biram Dah Abeid came in second position after collecting a score of 218,546 votes, or 22.10%, followed by Hamadi Sidi El Mokhtar Mohamed Abdi, president of the National Rally for Reform and Development Tawassoul, in third position with 126,340 votes. (12.78%).

As a reminder, Mr. Ould El Ghazouani won the 2019 presidential election in Mauritania after obtaining 52% of the votes.
