Analysis of the cervical lesion on which Michel Barnier was operated on at the end of October “did not find any suspicious cells”announced his doctor in a press release published by Matignon on Tuesday, November 19, in the evening. “The Prime Minister continues his activities normally, as he does elsewhere” since his operation, which took place on the weekend of October 26 and 27, added Olivier Hersan.

Michel Barnier had undergone surgery “from a cervical lesion”. It was the first time in forty years that a head of government had undergone an operation: in 1984, Prime Minister Pierre Mauroy (Socialist Party) was admitted to the Parisian Val-de-Grâce hospital to treat acute pneumonia. .

Michel Barnier's surgical intervention was “went very well” according to his doctor, and the Prime Minister was able to resume his work normally at Matignon on Monday, and his public activities a few days later. A scar is still visible on his neck.

According to the president of the National Academy of Surgery, Olivier Jaffré, this lesion resembles “at an approach to a lymph node, hence the delay in the anatomopathological examination” (search for a possible tumor), he detailed, refusing the hypothesis of a lesion of the « rachis cervical ». The analysis therefore aimed, according to him, to verify a risk “inflammatory, or infectious, or cancerous”.
