The City of Geneva is launching a vast census of the region’s audiovisual heritage. This inventory targets a thousand recipients: municipalities, cultural institutions, umbrella associations, businesses, players in the cultural scene, international organizations and archive centers.

This census is part of the program initiated in 2022 by the Memoriav association, which is committed to the safeguarding, development and large-scale use of audiovisual heritage on Swiss territory, the City indicated on Tuesday in a press release. Geneva is the 16th canton to join this national survey.

This inventory will make it possible to map heritage by identifying and quantifying audiovisual funds, known and unknown. This involves inventorying photographs, films, videos and sound documents – analog or digital – in order to guarantee their conservation and allow better accessibility to the public and researchers.

The census is based on a questionnaire developed by Memoriav. It is available in several versions suitable for large institutions, businesses, and private collections. Furthermore, anyone interested in the process can participate.
