With just over two months to go before leaving the White House, Joe Biden is engaged in a race against time to try to consolidate his record before Donald Trump returns to power. His successor has in fact promised to undo the key measures taken over the last four years.
There is no issue where the two adversaries are as opposed as support for Ukraine. By leading a coalition of allies, Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to survive the Russian invasion as an independent country. But the democrat’s prudence, so as not to drag the United States into a direct war with Russia, did not allow Ukraine to win. Donald Trump, on the contrary, does not hide his skepticism towards an endless war. He promises to resolve the conflict as quickly as possible. He could thus force kyiv to make concessions by using the lever of American military aid.
