The City of Geneva has adopted a new food charter which strengthens its partnership with local agriculture. Developed with representatives of the Geneva agricultural community, this text requires that 90% of the meat consumed in municipal institutions be labeled GRTA as a priority, or Swiss.
This sustainable food charter concerns not only municipal cafeterias, but also daycare centers, school restaurants and public establishments belonging to the City. Promoting local meat product sectors while reducing the use of imported products is a major element of this new framework document, the City said in a press release on Monday.
A specific charter for events has also been developed. It places stricter demands on drinks. From now on, 100% of wines must be Geneva. It also requires 50% craft beers, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks produced in Geneva. These two charters replace a text which was adopted in October 2021.
