MONTRÉAL, the 18 nov. 2024 /CNW/ – Faced with a glaring labor shortage in the pharmacy sector, the main players in the sector are joining forces to launch the “A good dose of future” campaign, an ambitious initiative aimed at promoting Careers as a pharmacy technician and pharmacy technical assistant.
While many places in professional and college training programs remain unfilled, this campaign comes at the right time to respond to a major challenge in the health sector. The current situation is worrying and requires concerted action, according to the initiative’s partners.
A multiplatform campaign
The “A good dose of future” campaign has been rolling out since November 11, 2024 on different media platforms to effectively reach potential candidates. An informative website (www.bonnedosedavenir.ca) has been set up to present in detail these essential professions, human and close to people, and the outlets and perspectives they offer.
Pharmacy is evolving, and so are the roles!
Careers in pharmacy are a lot more than counting pills! Pharmacy assistants and technicians now do much more than before, while pharmacists today focus more on their clinical role.
For example, a technical assistant in a community (neighborhood) pharmacy will be responsible for welcoming patients, carrying out vaccinations, carrying out certain tests and planning the supply of medications. In a health establishment, he will prepare injectable treatments in a sterile environment or collaborate with nursing staff by preparing medication administration sheets.
In addition, a healthcare facility technician can check the entry of prescriptions, collect information from hospitalized patients, write procedures and supervise technical work. In the community pharmacy, she will update patient information forms, train reception or telephone staff and evaluate the quality of customer service.
Careers in pharmacy offer stable and promising employment prospects, opportunities for professional development, a key role in the healthcare system and a direct contribution to patient well-being.
A collective effort
This initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Order of Pharmacists of Quebec, the Association of Pharmacists of Health Establishments of Quebec, the Quebec Association of Pharmacist Owners, the Professional Association of Salaried Pharmacists of Quebec, the Quebec Association of Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians and the Association of Pharmacy Banners and Chains of Quebec. It demonstrates an unprecedented mobilization of the sector to ensure its sustainability and development.
