M’diq – Some 100 sailors, men and women, are participating in the 34th edition of the “Al Massira Cup” regatta, which opened on Sunday in M’diq, on the occasion of the celebration of the 49th anniversary of the March Green.
Organized at the initiative of the Royal Yacht Club of M’diq (RYCM), under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation (FRMV), this event brings together the best sailors affiliated with national clubs.
This sporting event, which has become an unmissable event on the RYCM calendar, will continue over two days, with a final marked by the running of many events including all categories.
This regatta is an opportunity for the creation of a space for exchange, the refinement of the technical skills of the participants, as well as the contribution to the influence and tourism promotion of the prefecture of M’diq-Fnideq.
In a statement to MAP, the technical director of the RYCM, Hamid Senhaji, stressed that this emblematic competition, organized by the club since its creation 34 years ago, is among the most important at the national and continental level in the discipline of sailing, and attracts a large number of Moroccan champions.
In this sense, he noted that in addition to the symbolism and importance of the competition, the chosen period constitutes a real asset for attracting sailors, because the month of November, due to its weather conditions, offers ideal conditions for sailing in the Mediterranean, hence the significant influx experienced by the event.
This event, which extends over two days, includes four categories, namely the Optimist category (minimals and juniors), the ILCA 4 category for participants born after 2007, the ILCA 6 category, open to all age groups. ages, and finally the ILCA 7 category, reserved for men, he said.
Mr. Senhaji also recalled that this edition welcomes more than 100 sailors, men and women, from 8 national clubs, namely the Cap leisure club of Rabat, the Moroccan water sports association of Salé, the Yacht club of Tangier, the Yacht Club of Mohammedia, the Royal Navy of Casablanca, the Dalia water sports association, the Rabat beach nautical club and the Royal Navy club in M’diq.
For his part, the technical director of the FRMV, Mohammed Oudaadaa, noted that this event benefits from the support of the federation because it is one of the most prestigious sailing competitions in Morocco, indicating that it constitutes an opportunity to discover new talents in this discipline and to identify future champions and integrate them into the national team, with a view to qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
