(Keystone-ATS) Sunday morning, after three successive strikes on three different sites, a thick cloud of white smoke formed above buildings in the southern suburbs, according to AFPTV. Throughout the day on Saturday, the Israeli army shelled the area.
Shortly before Sunday’s raids, the Israeli army called on residents to evacuate the neighborhoods of Hadath, Bourj al-Barajneh and Chiyah in the southern suburbs, assuring them that they were “close to infrastructure and interests of Hezbollah.
The Lebanese national news agency Ani reported that “enemy aircraft” carried out a “violent strike in the vicinity of Saint-George hospital” in Hadath. Likewise, a strike hit “a residential building (…) near the church of Mar Mikhail in Chiyah”, specifies Ani.
At dawn on Sunday, the Israeli army carried out several strikes on villages in southern Lebanon, including seven on Jebchit in less than two hours, according to Ani.
For its part, Hezbollah reported in a press release nighttime fighting with the Israeli army near the town of Chamaa, approximately five kilometers from the border. Hezbollah fighters “ambushed the armed forces of the Israeli enemy who were advancing on the eastern outskirts of Chamaa,” according to the statement, reporting fighting “with automatic weapons and rockets.”
On Saturday evening, Hezbollah had already said it had hit an Israeli Merkava tank with a “guided missile”. Since Thursday, the Ani agency has reported attempts by the Israeli army to advance in this sector, with fighting forcing it to retreat.
