The holders
Gregor Kobel: 7
He saves the penalty, is saved by Cömert, but still misses his first shutout, abandoned by his defense.
Edimilson Fernandes: 6
Very prominent offensively, he offers a ball to Okafor who should have scored and he hits the post at 1-0. Too bad, but it’s still a good performance.
Eray Comert: 4
Unsurprisingly, the international level is a little too high for him. Dominated by Vlahovic in the air, he concedes a naive penalty against Mitrovic. His save in front of Vlahovic in the first period reflects at least a certain desire.
Aurèle Amenda: 5
For his first selection, it was not a gift to stuff the Vlahovic-Mitrovic duo. He paid for his inexperience once, when the first one went on goal alone. No frills on the ball. He will come back.
Ricardo Rodriguez: 5
He is at the origin of Amdouni’s goal, but we have the right to expect more from him, even if this left-back position really no longer highlights him. Any service.
Fabian Rieder: 5
Too discreet. This right midfielder position does not put him at the center of the game, and it shows. Involved in a few actions, it must however take on more scope.
Remo Freuler: 5
He saves himself with his decisive delivery for Amdouni, but his match is far too neutral to have a greater impact.
Granit Xhaka: 5
He sometimes set the pace, sometimes much less. A few failures, too. The captain is used to better things.
Noah Okafor: 4
You can’t blame him for showing up. But nothing to show off. Far too many gestures and failed attempts, and that goes well beyond his unfortunate miss in the first half. He wanted to do too much, so he did too much.
Breel Embolo: 3
The Monegasque striker is not confident, and it shows a little too much. He no longer weighs on defenses, and his teammates can’t even really lean on him. Symbol of a failing collective game, perhaps.
Zeki Amdouni: 7
He scores a very good goal, but the Genevan could undoubtedly score one or two more. The fact remains that he is the only real scorer in this selection, and that counts. It’s hard to do without him, though.
The replacements:
Andi Zeqiri: 5
Fairly neutral entry in place of Embolo in the 64th minute. He does a lot of shopping, but contributes relatively little.
Joel Monteiro: 6
A real activity, which contrasts a bit with Rieder, whom he replaced in the 64th minute.
Derek Cook: 6
Willpower, as soon as he replaced Okafor in the 64th minute. It is also he who recovers the ball prior to Amdouni’s goal. But with a bit of waste, all the same.
Kevin Mbabu and Ulisses Garcia didn’t play enough to be rated.
