“He gives me tablets”, this accused relied on the Pélicot “method” for the rape of his mother

This Friday, November 15, 2024 marks the 46th day of the Mazan rape trial, which is being held before the Vaucluse criminal court in Avignon. As this tenth week of hearing draws to a close, the profiles of the accused continue to be examined in detail. Among them is Charly A., aged 30, whose testimony and implications attracted particular attention from the court.

This case of unprecedented magnitude is based on accusations of chemical submission organized by the victim's ex-husband. For almost ten years, he allegedly drugged and orchestrated the rape of his wife without her knowledge. The evidence, notably videos shot by Dominique Pélicot, revealed the participation of nearly 80 men, 50 of whom were formally identified and are appearing today in this exceptional trial.

A shocking complicity with Dominique Pélicot

According to the testimony, the accused admitted to having come to the Pélicot home six times between 2016 and 2020where he participated in the abuse at the instigation of the victim's ex-husband. Aged 22 during his first visit, he admitted that the man had confided in him having administered sleeping pills to his wife to render her unconscious. “When did Mr. Pélicot tell you that he gave his wife sleeping pills?” asks the judge. Pushing further, he clarified “ Towards the end, the first, second, third time? “ This one, disturbed, declared “II think the last time.”

Police revealed excerpts from videos recorded by the main accused, detailing repeated rape scenes where Gisèle Pélicot appears totally unconsciousincapable of showing the slightest sign of consent. The president of the court then questions the co-accused “Was she able to express consent?” To which he replied in the negative, adding “When I spoke with Mr. Pélicot, he told me that she agreed.” The judge continued by asking whether he had noticed the victim's state and whether it had caught his attention. “No, that was the scenario.”he said, specifying that the victim appeared “normal”.

Mazan trial: The Pélicot “method”

One of the most shocking aspects of the hearing was the revelation that Dominique Pélicot had encouraged Charly A. to apply its “methods“to subject a similar fate to his own mother. The exchanges between the two men, documented by videos, demonstrate disconcerting planning. “You can keep me informed, if it's not this weekend, it's the one after”, Pélicot insisted during a discussion dated June 2020. Influenced and visibly manipulated, he even admits that, without his brother's presence, he would have been inclined to carry out the plan. Faced with this constant pressure, the accused testifies that he lost all autonomy of decision in the presence of the ex-husband, who showed himself both reassuring and enterprising.

Furthermore, the judge also questioned him about the determination in this sinister project “EIs Mr. Pélicott taking things seriously regarding the project concerning your mother? “ To which he admitted to having received tablets from the latter, supposed to be used to drug his mother. “He explains the method to you? the judge asks, to which the accused responds hesitantly, but admits that he had to crush the tablets before taking them home. Finally, during the search of his home,Investigators discovered underwear belonging to his motheradding a disturbing element to the matter.
