The national team strolled, this Friday, November 15, in the stadium of the city of Franceville, winning largely against Gabon (5-1) on behalf of the 5th day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers during A meeting without stakes, both nations being qualified for the competition.
The match started badly for the Atlas Lions who conceded a first goal in the 5th minute by Denis Bouanga. Achraf Hakimi and his teammates had a second scare when Aubamayang came close to doubling the lead in the 8th minute, before his goal was disallowed for offside.
After difficulties at the defense level which showed feverishness at the start of this meeting, the offense, for its part, strengthened with in particular Jamal Harkass who allowed his team to come back to the score in the 17th minute . This is his first goal in the colors of Morocco.
Gabon’s opener gave some motivation to Walid Regragui’s men who took the lead in the 21st minute thanks to a goal from Brahim Diaz. The Real Madrid player made a resounding comeback and scored twice in the space of two minutes (21′).
At the end of the first period, the Panthers tried as best they could to get back on track, but it was without counting on Nayef Aguerd who prevented the ball from crossing Yassine Bounou’s net. The Moroccan porter also played an important role in maintaining the score before the break.
Gabon went on the offensive from the start of the second period, but the Atlas Lions, hungry for victory, quickly regained the upper hand near the fourth goal thanks to Achraf Hakimi who combined perfectly with Brahim Diaz but who narrowly missed the mark, like Ayoub El Kaabi, a few minutes later.
After numerous attempts by Regragui’s men, it was Youssef En-Nesyri who offered his team the fourth goal in the 81st minute, his 22nd in the Mountakhab jersey.
The goal festival continued with Ismail Saibari adding himself to the list of scorers with a shot into the top corner in the 90th minute.
It is therefore a successful bet for Walid Regragui before the African competition. Morocco will have a second test on Monday and will meet Lesotho to confirm their good form.
