In Matam (north), no polling station will be relocated for the early legislative elections, assured Governor Saïd Dia. According to him, no voting center is currently flooded, whether in Kanel or Matam. The head of the regional executive toured several localities to ensure that all conditions are met for the smooth running of the control.

“No center is currently flooded as well as on the side of Kanel and Matam. After the flood, it was necessary to check the polling stations which had been invaded by floodwaters. We have noted from the current state of affairs that all the offices are functional,” declared Saïd Dia on Radio Senegal International (RSI).

Although water remains in certain areas, notably in Djamel, the governor clarified that this does not affect the conduct of the vote. “The delivery of the material poses no problem. I believe that Djamel’s offices will be maintained where they are,” he added, reassuring the population.

Furthermore, Saïd Dia supervised the reception of electoral materials. “It was first necessary to see first-hand the actual receipt of electoral materials by the prefects and sub-prefects. Everything is ready so that on Sunday, November 17, 2024, each voter can fulfill their right to vote,” he said.

The authorities are calling on citizens to come and collect their cards. In Matam, more than 4,000 cards are overdue at the distribution commissions.
