Cinema loses a new emblematic figure. Aged 88, Donald Sutherland lost his life this Thursday, June 20, 2024, as announced by our colleagues at Variety. The multi-awarded Canadian actor died following a long illness according to the CAA.

Known for his role in Hunger GamesDonald Sutherland also had roles in The Dirty Dozen, MASH, Klute et Don’t Look Now. But his career really exploded afterwards with his roles in Ordinary People et Without Limits.

Gigantic filmography for Donald Sutherland

Career-wise, this one is filled with rewards. Indeed, Kiefer Sutherland’s father won numerous awards during his 70-year career. Including a Primetime Emmy, two Golden Globes, and a Critics’ Choice Television Award. On the other hand, he is one of those immense actors who has still never received an Oscar nomination.

It was only in 2017 that the ceremony honored him with an honorary prize. Despite the statuette missing from his trophy cabinet, Donald Sutherland will leave an unforgettable memory in the minds of movie buffs.

A man rewarded

Don’t Look Back, Day of the Scourge, Six Degrees of Separation, No Limits, Italian Heist, Pride or Prejudices. Just as many films which are part of a very long list in which he took part. But the biggest creation in which he played remains Hunger Games. A trilogy in which Donald Sutherland plays the role of President Snow.

As our colleagues at Jean-Marc Morandini recall, in addition to his awards, Kiefer Sutherland’s father was also entitled to various other honors such as induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2000 and the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011. The world of cinema is once again mourning a great actor.
