According to INSEE, the unemployment rate in France would rise slightly during the third quarter of 2024 after a drop in the second quarter to reach 7.4%. An increase of 0.1 point.
The International Labor Office has delivered its verdict, reports BFMTV. According to the institution which harmonizes the employment figures of each country at the European level, the unemployment rate in France would have risen slightly for this third quarter of 2024. After a slight drop in the second quarter, the rate rose to 7.4 % of the active population, INSEE announced this Wednesday, November 13.
A “quasi-stable” development according to INSEE
But behind the figures, there are 35,000 people who lost their jobs during the summer of 2024. According to the National Institute of Statistics, despite this increase, this very weak development leads it to say that the unemployment rate is “quasi stable”.
The dark spot in these figures remains the employment rate of young people aged 15 to 24. Indeed, unemployment particularly hits them with a rate of 19.7%. This also increased by 1.8 points during the last quarter of 2024. On the other hand, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 points among those over 50 and by 0.1 points for young people between 25 and and 49 years old.
