According to a Léger surveyThe Journal-VAT, 70% of Quebecers say they are dissatisfied with the return of the American billionaire to the presidency of the United States.
Only 20% of people surveyed said they were satisfied with it.
Logic
At the other end of the spectrum are the supporters of Eric Duhaime’s conservatives, more than 70% of whom won their election.
Voters of Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party of Canada are satisfied with the election of Mr. Trump at 56%.
During the election campaign, the president-elect presented several proposals that risk damaging Canada. In Ottawa as in Quebec, we are preparing for four years of turbulence of an unpredictable presidency.
Despite everything, “the election of Donald Trump aligns a little more with certain values of conservative voters in Quebec, whether at the federal or provincial level,” explains pollster Sébastien Dallaire.
“So there is some logic there.”
Age and gender
Quebecers’ perception of the historic election in the United States also differs depending on age and gender.
Thus, 28% of men and only 13% of women are delighted with the result.
A feeling shared by 27% of 18-34 year olds and only 12% of those aged 55 and over.
In reaction to the election of Donald Trump, 46% of Quebecers say they are less interested in a visit to the United States than before.
