In response to a question from the Istiqlalian group of unity and egalitarianism in the House of Representatives, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, announced a project for a Moroccan factory for assembling train sets. train.
Without giving further details, the government official specified that the production of this future industrial unit would be intended for the National Railway Office (ONCF), but also for other export customers, particularly in Africa.
Questioned by the USFP group on strengthening the rail network, the minister mentioned the ONCF’s 2040 plan, which provides for the creation of 1,300 km of high-speed lines (LGV) and 3,800 km of additional conventional lines, thus connecting 43 cities (compared to 23 currently). Enough to allow the rail network to cover 87% of the population, compared to only 51% today.

Abdessamad Kayouh also detailed the program contract signed between the State and the ONCF, with a budget of 87 billion dirhams, aimed at extending the LGV, particularly between Kenitra and Marrakech, and modernizing existing lines.
Finally returning to the ONCF figures, the minister noted that the number of passengers transported this year should experience a significant increase, to pass “from nearly 53 million passengers in 2023 to 55 million by the end of 2024”.
