After the disappointment “Napoleon”, English director Ridley Scott is directing the sequel to his cult epic.
A year after a very controversial “Napoleon”, Ridley Scott, 86, returns with a more unifying project, a sequel to his emblematic film, released twenty-four years ago. Like a return to basics which sees Lucius, hidden son of Maximus, take back the reins of the revolt and fight in the arena of an ever more bloodthirsty Roman empire. By opting for a copy/paste of the first, Scott is not taking any risks.
A deluge of digital effects
Unfurls its always majestic visual style in an often ferocious film, despite a deluge of digital effects not always in the best taste. He knows how to surround himself with solid actors, from Mescal in Washington to Pedro Pascal and the returning Connie Nielsen who give flesh and nuance to this good peplum without audacity. Of course, they all lead to Rome, but some could stay by the side of the road this time…
