In continuation of the commitments expressed by and reaffirmed by President Emmanuel Macron during his recent state visit to Morocco, the French ambassador in Rabat, Christophe Lecourtier, is preparing to undertake a most significant visit. From November 11 to 13, 2024, he will visit the cities of Laâyoune and Dakhla with a view to further strengthening cooperation in various fields in the region.

Indeed, Ambassador Lecourtier will be accompanied by a delegation made up of several embassy employees, each with specific expertise in various crucial areas such as cultural, educational and economic issues, indicates the French embassy.

« In accordance with the positions expressed by France and the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, including during his recent state visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, the objective of this trip is to meet the populations and the authorities local, to listen and take stock of the issues and needs of these regions and identify concrete avenues of action that France can implement to contribute to their economic and social development, for the benefit of their inhabitants“, we read in the embassy note.

She specifies that in parallel to this trip, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morocco (CFCIM) is organizing “Economic Days” in the regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, in which around fifty business leaders and Moroccan and French economic decision-makers.

It should be noted that Christophe Lecourtier’s visit to the Sahara comes in the wake of the explicit support expressed by France for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces. The French president having affirmed that both the present and the future of the Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

In addition, Macron reiterated this support during his recent state visit to Morocco, notably in his speech to members of both Houses of Parliament, thus consolidating the foundations of a bilateral relationship marked by this position on the international scene.
