Clashes broke out between demonstrators and police in front of Valencia city hall on Saturday.
Earlier today, thousands of people took part in a peaceful march to demand the resignation of Valencia region president Carlos Mazón.
The latter is accused of not having raised the alarm in time during the deadly floods which submerged eastern Spain at the end of October.
Citizens in the Valencia region were warned by telephone at 8 p.m. on Tuesday October 29, while the Spanish meteorological agency had issued the highest alert level at 7:30 a.m., and some communities were already flooded at 6 p.m.
Carlos Mazón claims that the scale of the floods was impossible to predict and in turn accuses the Spanish central authorities of not having issued a warning earlier.
Floods killed at least 222 people last month in Spainwhile rescue teams are still searching for the many people still missing.
While the exact extent of the damage is not yet known, the Spanish Consortium for Insurance Compensation estimates that it will spend at least 3.5 billion euros on compensation.
To support the reconstruction of affected regions, the European Investment Bank also announced this week the activation of a 900 million euro financing facility.
