There will ultimately be no WC revolution in Vaudois bistros. A few months after wanted to remove the obligation made to cafe owners to provide separate toilets for men and women, the Council of State announces that the current standards will ultimately remain in force. THE Regulations implementing the law on inns and drinking establishments will not be retouched.

Despite two consultations, the reform project was abandoned “for lack of consensus”, the Vaud government indicated this Thursday. Public establishments with a capacity of more than 20 people will therefore have to continue to offer separate toilets based on gender.

This status quo is a disappointment for Vassilis Venizelos, whose postulate (filed in 2021 as a deputy) was behind the project. In his plea for the generalization of mixed toilets, the ecologist, meanwhile elected to the government, judged that they had the particular advantage of “reducing endless queues in front of women’s toilets, of making life easier transgender people and to prevent parents who accompany a child of the opposite sex from having to wonder which toilet to choose.”
