Hadja Lahbib prepares her “grand oral” at the European Parliament: here is how this exam will take place

Outgoing Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib is studying and preparing for her “grand oral” at the European Parliament this Wednesday. An oral exam which is intended to be a sort of exam to obtain the position of European Commissioner. Position for which she applied, via her party the MR.

The President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen decided to entrust him with the post of Commissioner for Crisis Preparedness and Management as well as Equality. What is it about?

A commissioner is a bit like a minister within the European Union. Here, Hadja Lahbib will be in charge of preparing plans to manage future environmental or health crises for example, we are thinking of covid in particular. Concerning equality, here too, it must prepare strategies to ensure respect for women’s rights and the rights of LGBTQI+ people, particularly throughout the European Union.

But to obtain this position, Hadja Lahbib will have to pass a major oral examination in front of the European deputies. A sort of exam. Concretely, how will this happen?

The hearing lasts 3 hours before a committee of MEPs familiar with the skills in question. Hadja Lahbib, like the other candidate commissioners in other areas, will have 15 minutes to present his motivations. Then, we will ask her questions… Questions that she has already received… So she was able to prepare them.

It’s a bit like a job interview. First we will ask him what are his motivations? His qualities to occupy such a position?

Before getting to the more specific questions. In particular, she will be asked how she intends to manage the delivery of humanitarian aid to countries in need at a time when the European Union is experiencing budget cuts…

Concerning equality, here is a question that will be asked: What is your strategy against cyberbullying and how to manage threats linked to artificial intelligence?

There are dozens and dozens of questions on five pages of questions. The result is expected at the end of the month.
