Seton Palace is a majestic castle currently on sale for 8 million pounds, or nearly 9.45 million euros. It is located in the county of East Lothian, Scotland. In the original castle, demolished in 1715, Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, spent her honeymoon with Henry Stuart, her second wife. The stones of the old palace were also reused to erect the current building, whose construction dates from 1789.
According to the announcement from the Savills real estate group, the number of owners of the estate in its 235-year history can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Between the end of the 18th century and 2003, the castle was in the hands of the Wemyss family, before being bought by entrepreneur Steve Leach and his wife, Heather Luscombe. The couple undertook numerous renovation works there before reselling it in 2019. Since 2022, it was owned by entrepreneur David Fam and was considered the most expensive private residence in the country.
The castle is located on a plot of 52,000 m2. “Seton is a fairytale castle. We are captivated from the moment we see it and this extends to the quality of its interior decoration through the interior courtyard,” says Jessica Gwyn of Savills to “Robb Report” magazine. “But it’s also a functional house, with a billiard room, a wine cellar and a bar.”
Not only has the facade of the castle been renovated to the highest standard, but the numerous turrets, chimneys and roofs have also been carefully restored. Inside, historic features such as the arched oak doors and plasterwork have been retained. The wine cellar has a capacity of 10,000 bottles.
The surface area of the four-story building is 1,625 m2. There are seven bedrooms, a gym and a home cinema. Outside, future lords will not be left out and will benefit, among other things, from a heliport, three outbuildings that can accommodate guests and a stable.
