This Sunday, November 3, 2024, a diabetes screening caravan arrived at the El Jeni multidisciplinary sports hall in the Doukkarate district of Fez.
Initiated by the association “Forum Oulfa for family development”, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Sun Pharma company, this action benefited more than 120 beneficiaries, recruited by the network of health centers in the prefecture of Fez . “On site, many patients are diagnosed and undergo careful screening. They benefit from appropriate support, screening devices and medication samples,” indicates Touria Faraj, president of the association. Same story with the managers of the pharmaceutical company for whom “these actions are organized on a regular basis for the benefit of people in need”. They benefit from free screening of their blood sugar levels. “They are also made aware of the risks of diabetes disease in the event of non-treatment or poor care,” we explain. And to continue: “awareness can protect them against cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure and loss of vision, among others”. Proof of the usefulness of this caravan, a few cases of diabetes were detected during this prevention action.
For information, the blood sugar level not to be exceeded is 1.26g/L of blood. Beyond that, it could be diabetes. The patients detected on November 3, 2024 were treated and will be followed up. “The management of diabetes is multidisciplinary. There is medical care, dietetics and psychological care,” underline the initiators of the caravan.
The role of associations, doctors and pharmaceutical companies is particularly essential for vulnerable patients. This awareness, support and care are also important for the future.
