Servette and the derby: going to Lausanne, a nice stroll

For the cohort of Servetti supporters, it has become a must. Travel to Lausanne galvanizes hearts and fills trains.

From Geneva, we go up (or down, it depends) in the Vaudois capital with the carefreeness of a school run, cap screwed on the head and picnic slung over one shoulder.

The Sunday getaway to La Tuilière will not escape the rule, at the heart of this autumn which sees the two Lake Geneva clubs exalted by an unprecedented vitality.

There will be play and stakes, nothing better to raise expectations and swell the crowd. And why not dream of a wonderful derby, which, as is often the case, will smile on the “Garnet” – the history books are clear.

However, we should not forget that the recent past has made this event a high-risk match. Where families no longer dare to venture, we hear, at the risk of having their nostrils tickled by tear gas.

Difficult to prove them wrong, given the past: repeated confusion, messy fuss.

All in all, this is not inevitable. As long as you don’t give up on going there.

On the contrary, it is a question of not giving in, of continuing to set out with the same candid enthusiasm, of not burning our happiness of going to the stadium on the fire stoked by a few pathetic idlers: here either, they will not have our hatred.

This Lake Geneva derby belongs to the entire garnet family and well beyond, and no one has the right to appropriate it, let alone requisition it. It must remain a huge party, for everyone.

So let’s go wandering together, with a playful spirit, a smart eye but above all with a heart on our sleeves, to show them how beautiful football is on our side of the lake.
