Dakar, May 29 (APS) – The Head of State recalled, Wednesday, in the Council of Ministers, his commitment to respecting the “sovereignty of the people”, in particular inviting the government to ensure the smooth running of the Assizes of Justice , launched Tuesday in Diamniadio, in the Rufisque department.

”The President of the Republic indicated that he particularly values ​​respect for the sovereignty of the Senegalese people which involves the promotion of benchmark, exemplary and irreproachable justice, exclusively rendered in the name of the people”, can – we read in the press release sanctioning the weekly government meeting.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye has therefore reiterated his commitment to working tirelessly for a just and transparent Senegal, anchored in its secular values ​​and reconciled with its institutions.

He thus asked the Minister of Justice, to ensure with the Facilitator he designated, the Presidents of the commissions and sub-committees, the smooth running of the Assizes of Justice, the conclusions and recommendations of which will be the subject of a benevolent and pragmatic examination, as well as appropriate follow-up by the executive power, reports the text.

The press release indicates that the Head of State invited the government to consider dialogue as a method of preventive and effective work to establish peace, social stability and the appropriation by the populations of public policies, a guarantee of economic recovery. .

The work of the National Dialogue on the reform and modernization of justice began Tuesday at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD) in Diamniadio, in the department of Rufisque, under the effective presidency of the Head of State, Bassirou Doimaye Diakhar Faye.

”It is a major event which will serve as a framework for the various actors to examine in depth our judicial system with a view to improving it. (…) The discussions aim to lead to concrete results, affecting various aspects of the judicial system,” indicated in particular the Government Information Office (BIG).

The President of the National Assembly, Amadou Mame Diop, the President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, the President of the High Council for Social Dialogue, Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye and several members of the Government take part in the meeting . This also saw the presence of many other officials and local elected officials.

Representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to Senegal, representatives of workers’ associations and organizations, several experts and specialists, religious and customary guides and various other guests also participate in the work.

In a conceptual note, received by the APS, the BIG ensures that the work which will be returned on June 4 will focus on themes as important as the status of magistrates, the organization and functioning of the Superior Council of the Magistracy, the conditions of detention and preparation for the social reintegration of prisoners, the regime of deprivation of liberty, the care of children in danger or in conflict with the law, etc.
