Brussels: several hundred pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in front of the Israeli embassy (photos)

PSeveral hundred pro-Palestinian demonstrators, a good number of whom are students from ULB and VUB, met near the Israeli embassy in Uccle. Unlike the day before, they were kept away from the representation of the Jewish state by the police.

After two hours of peaceful demonstrations, with demonstrators trying to bypass the police, clashes eventually broke out. After a tense face-to-face confrontation, and objects being thrown at the police, tear gas was used. A water cannon was also used, particularly towards demonstrators who were throwing paving stones and tree branches.

The majority of participants continued to demonstrate peacefully.

Already the day before, another demonstration (also unauthorized) had sparked a violent confrontation with the police. At least two people were injured in the eye by a jet of water in the narrow street where the embassy is located. The Human Rights League (LDH) condemned these events, calling on the municipality of Uccle to “respect the right to demonstrate”.
