Exceptional guest of Rothen ignites Thursday on RMC, the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, spoke out in favor of a temporary interruption of matches in the event of homophobic chants. But he admitted that a total stoppage of a meeting is “not the right solution.”
The government is banging its fist on the table. After new homophobic chants heard on Saturday at the Parc des Princes during the Ligue 1 match, PSG-Strasbourg, a meeting bringing together the players in French professional football was held on Thursday at the Ministry of the Interior. While waiting for nominative ticketing planned for 2025, Bruno Retailleau wants homophobic chants to stop definitively in stadiums.
The LFP was therefore ordered to enforce FIFA regulations and to interrupt matches in the event of homophobic chants. “The sports movement must take its responsibilities, there must be a temporary interruption,” declared the Minister of the Interior, exceptional guest of Rothen ignites Thursday on RMC.

Bruno Retailleau, Minister of the Interior on excesses in football – 24/10
“Possibly exfiltrations”
But while the Minister of Sports, Gil Avérous, spoke in favor of completely stopping a match if the chants continued a few minutes earlier at the microphone of BFMTV, Bruno Retailleau was much more cautious: ” Stopping matches is very complicated, it is not the right solution, but we need a temporary interruption, possibly exfiltrations even if it is complicated within a stand.
What if the songs continue? “I do not want to comment, it is up to the sports movement. I will not encroach on the sports movement,” continues the Minister of the Interior. This burst of pressure comes before a hot weekend in Ligue 1 with the Lens-Lille northern derby on Saturday evening and the OM-PSG Classic on Sunday evening at the Vélodrome stadium.
