Morocco is a “real” hub for the expansion of the gaming industry towards African markets, said Sophie Zhong, vice-president of the Chinese group Century Huatong, on Saturday in Rabat.

During a press conference organized on the sidelines of the first edition of the “Morocco Gaming Expo 2024”, Ms. Zhong highlighted the central role of Morocco as a strategic hub for the electronic games industry in Africa. This conference was an opportunity for a group of Chinese investors to announce their investment projects in Morocco in the field of video games and to discuss ways to develop this industry.

Highlighting the significant development of infrastructure in Morocco, the head of the Century Huatong Group, specialized in the development and operation of online games, affirmed that this development “positions the country as a real hub for access to African markets” .

Zhong also noted Morocco’s ambition to develop the gaming industry, welcoming the Kingdom’s efforts in this direction and its accumulated experience in the field of cultural and creative industries. She also called for an adequate localization of electronic industries in Morocco, in particular, and on the continent in general, capable of fostering mutual interests and promoting video games, which are experiencing strong enthusiasm on the part of large segments of the Moroccan population.

In this regard, Zhong stressed the need to take full advantage of local education systems that use video games for educational purposes, noting the possibility of bringing Chinese teachers to Morocco for this purpose and to help the Moroccan electronics industry in general.

The first edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo aims to promote the national gaming industry and present its various technical, artistic, creative, educational and financial components.

Organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the show constitutes a platform for Moroccan companies and startups, offering them the opportunity to meet international players in the gaming industry and establish partnerships nationally and internationally. It is also an opportunity for young, passionate entrepreneurs to strengthen ties with the various players in the value chain of this industry, while promoting business creation initiatives in this sector.

The exhibition, which takes place from May 24 to 26, offers seminars, round tables and training sessions led by high-level experts. The themes covered include “Rabat Gaming City”, “The video game industry – Trends and perspectives”, “Video games in the entertainment industry: a new paradigm” or even “Building a video game ecosystem: Keys to success “.
