Xavier Thuizat becomes the new Head Sommelier of Air France

The sommelier at the Crillon hotel takes over from Paolo Basso, who has been working with the airline since 2014. New list of French wines, as well as national beers, on the program.

The head sommelier of the Hôtel de Crillon Xavier Thuizat succeeds Paolo Basso, who has been responsible for producing the wine list for Air France’s travel cabins and lounges in Paris airports since 2014. Best sommelier in France 2022, best sommelier worker in France 2023, winner of the 2024 grand sommelier prize from the Michelin Guide, it was necessary to have a name of the caliber of Xavier Thuizat to take over from the best sommelier in the world 2013, upon signing of the company’s wine list since 2014.

“Xavier Thuizat will continue Paolo Basso’s mission to offer with pleasure and excellence the best of French wine heritage to our customers”, rejoices Air France customer experience director Fabien Pelous. From upper class cabins to airport lounges, including the Economy category, Air France offers “an offer of wines, champagnes and spirits promoting the vineyard and French productions, with each year, more than a million bottles of champagne and more than 8 million bottles of wine served to the company’s customers”states a press release.

Xavier Thuizat is in charge of composing a new offer, through blind tastings alongside the Air France teams. The sommelier of Burgundian origin will also focus on creating a new offering of French beers.
