The mockery of Republicans, rightly or wrongly, about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline seems far away. Since Kamala Harris entered the campaign, the Democratic ticket has become significantly younger: 81 years old for the current tenant of the White House compared to now 60 on October 20 for the Californian. Faced with this makeover, it is Donald Trump who has suddenly looked old and who is now the eldest, by far, in the presidential race. The meeting he held Monday in Oaks, Pennsylvania, did not serve to reassure skeptics about his mental capacity to ensure four years of presidency if he was elected on November 5.

To understand the concerns, we must rewind the course of this event, held in a small town in this pivotal state, and moderated by the Republican governor of South Dakota Kristi L. Noem. A question-and-answer session was planned with the audience but was interrupted several times by people who had passed out in the room. The billionaire jokes, asking the assembly if another person plans to faint again, then he decides on a musical interlude: “Let’s not ask any more questions. Let’s just listen to music. […] Who wants to hear questions, right?” asks the main person rhetorically. 39 long minutes followed, punctuated by nine titles, during which Donald Trump wiggled, clapped his hands and bobbed at the Village People, Hail Mary sung by Pavarotti or even It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World the James Brown.
