After a clear sky allowing us to observe the Northern Lights this weekend, stormy weather is on the horizon. Forecast.

In short :

  • Scattered thunderstorms expected in 2 major areas;

  • Unstable conditions until Tuesday;

  • Possibility of small hailstones, heavy rain and gusts.

“A system is entering from the west of the province today and brings with it the potential for thunderstorms. This Monday, the risk is mainly concentrated in the west where the passage of a front favors the uprising. On Tuesday the risk moves to the Saguenay, where the junction of the cold front, the warm front and the occluded front brings favorable parameters to the formation of storm cells,” explains Alexandra Giroux, meteorologist.

Thunderstorms scattered throughout the day

This Monday, May 13, a system extends from northern Quebec to southern Ontario and will bring a risk of scattered thunderstorms, with gusts, heavy rain and a risk of small hailstones.

On the Ontario side, the parameters are met for violent thunderstorms, with in particular a risk of heavy rain.

A risk in several sectors of Quebec

A depression coming from the west will release energy and risks bringing scattered thunderstorms to the west of the province late in the afternoon and during the evening, mainly in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, but also for part of Nord-du-Québec and Mauricie, as well as in northern Outaouais.

STORM2 (1)

Subsequently, these conditions should move into the south of the province and bring thunderstorms that will have lost intensity. Although precipitation is expected to be less, it would be possible to hear thunder rumbling during the night.
