One person died and four others were injured in an avalanche on Thursday afternoon above Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland. Four helicopters went looking for them, three of them from Rega. The victim is a 32-year-old Frenchman, living in the canton of Vaud, said the Bernese cantonal police. The four injured were taken to hospital.

The snow slide occurred at the height of the Oeschinensee. The police were alerted at 2:01 p.m. A Rega spokesperson told Keystone-ATS that several people had been found injured, thanks to the help of avalanche dogs.

Rescue work involving a special unit of the cantonal police continued into the early evening. The information was initially given by the 20minutes site.
