Rabat – The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khaled Ait Taleb, reaffirmed, Monday in Rabat, that former beneficiaries of the medical assistance scheme (RAMED), who were undergoing treatment for chronic or incurable illness, will continue to benefit from free hospitalization in public health establishments.
In response to an oral question in the House of Representatives on “the difficulties of benefiting from the Compulsory Health Insurance (AMO)” system, posed by the Istiqlalien Group of Unity and Egalitarianism, Mr. Ait Taleb assured that his department is aware of the constraints of the switch from RAMED to AMO Tadamon, stressing that “correspondence has been sent and circulars issued in order to ensure that former beneficiaries of RAMED suffering from chronic or incurable illnesses can continue to benefit from the treatment in public hospitals”.
Furthermore, the government has strengthened the legal arsenal in order to generalize medical coverage for the benefit of all categories of citizens, added Mr. Ait Taleb, citing the injection of 9.5 billion dirhams to ensure medical coverage for Approximately 11 million citizens having previously been beneficiaries of RAMED.
In this same vein, and in response to an oral question on “the problems of the generalization of the medical coverage system” posed by the Haraki group, the minister underlined that the automatic switch from RAMED to AMO Tadamon gave rise to a problem social concerning “the exclusion of a number of citizens due to lack of eligibility”.
And to add that “the targeting was carried out on the basis of the Unified Social Register which adopts the index 9.32, beyond which one must adhere to a medical coverage scheme depending on the social situation”.
During the implementation of the medical coverage project, “possible special social cases may arise”, according to the minister who specifies that, for these cases, solutions will be sought so that they benefit from this project.
