“The answer is no.” Asked about United States support for a potential Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear sites, American President Joe Biden defined a new red line. Wednesday, passing through North Carolina, a state affected by the hurricane HeleneJoe Biden clarified that his G7 allies were on the same line: Israel “has the right to react, but in a proportionate manner”. As for potential Israeli strikes on Iranian oil installations, the American president admits that “discussions” are underway. “I think it would be a bit… Anyway,” he declared without finishing his sentence, during a brief exchange with the press at the White House this Thursday. After the attack by Iran, which launched 181 ballistic missiles into Israeli territory on Tuesday evening, the Jewish state promised a “significant response”. How? Israel appears not to have yet made a final decision.

According to observers, three alternatives are being studied: targeting oil and nuclear installations or high-ranking executives of the Islamic Republic. Will American pressure work on Benjamin Netanyahu, also subject to internal pressure? On Wednesday, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called for a decisive strike to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities.
