Do you know Ryan Gosling’s “La La Hand”? Because of a misplaced hand, the actor would like to remake a cult scene from “La La Land” that he sees everywhere and from which he cannot escape…

This moment in La La Land still haunts Ryan Gosling today, almost eight years after the film’s release.

In a video interview with WSJ Magazine, the actor admitted that if he could, he would do the film’s famous dance sequence with co-star Emma Stone that was featured on the feature’s promotional poster. As for his reason, it is because of what he described as his “La La Hand”.

There is a moment that haunts me when Emma and I dance. I didn’t know this would become the movie poster”, said the Barbie star before letting out a long sigh. “But I thought we were supposed to put our hands up and I thought it would be cool to put my hand up like that”, referring to his wrist tilted in relation to his partner’s hand, as shown in the photo below.

Ryan Gosling made it clear that he chose this position “even though everyone told him it wasn’t cool”, but he disagreed at the time – a decision he bitterly regrets now, no longer able to escape the image he sees everywhere.

Now when I look at it – and I have to see it all the time – you know what would have been cooler than that?” the actor asked, raising his hand as he did in the sequence. “That”, he replied, pointing his wrist upwards to resemble that ofEmma Stone.

It just killed the energy”, joked Gosling. “It was a bit like what was this all leading to? Just like a sloth… I call him ‘La La Hand’”.

He was then told that dancers have a term for the way he had positioned his hand: “Hamburger Hands”. Asked if his dance training in his younger years had helped him prepare for the role of Sébastien in the film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, the actor replied: “I thought it would help in La La Land and then, of course, Gosling with his hamburger hands… In the end, it didn’t help me at all”, he concluded with humor.

Ryan Gosling ultimately earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the film. La La Land won six Oscars in total that year.

La La Land can be seen again on VOD. Ryan Gosling can also currently be found at the cinema in The Fall Guy by David Leitch, in theaters since May 1.
