Servette FC – FC Lausanne-Sport: A timely derby

Servette FC – FC Lausanne-Sport: A timely derby

Held back by Zurich’s Grasshopper, the SFC welcomes Lausanne-Sport, Saturday September 28 (6 p.m.), as part of the long-awaited Lake derby.

The performance of the last match

Traveling to Zurich for the 7th day of the Super League, Servette was held in check by Grasshopper (2-2) in a lively match. After Choinière opened the scoring (23rd), Kutesa quickly responded with a curling shot (34th). Just before half-time, Simbakoli gave the Grenat the advantage by scoring with a header (45th + 11).

However, an unfortunate deviation from the latter offered the equalizer to Lee Young-Jun (54th). The meeting was complicated with the expulsion of Gaël Ondoua in the 72nd minute. Despite some scares at the end of the match, the Servettians were able to keep the score at ten against eleven.

The form of the opponent

After seven days in the Super League, FC Lausanne-Sport is having a checkered start to the season. The Vaudois had started well by winning 3-2 against FC Basel on the first day, but the rest was more complicated. Following four consecutive defeats, including a heavy 4-0 defeat at Sion and a close match lost 4-3 against Saint-Gall at home, Lausanne seemed in difficulty.

The 1-1 draw against Young Boys away provided a breath of fresh air, before the club revived by winning 3-1 against Yverdon-Sport in the Vaudois derby. Despite this encouraging victory, LS is struggling to keep a clean sheet, conceding 17 goals in 7 matches. However, the team will look to capitalize on their recent positive performances, both in the Cup and the Championship, to leave the Stade de Genève with all three points.

The player to be wary of

Since the start of the 2024-2025 season, Fousseni Diabaté has stood out as one of the strong men of the Lausanne attack. The Franco-Malian winger was decisive five times in seven days, confirming his importance in the LS offensive system. In the 3-2 victory against FC Basel, Diabaté shone with a goal and an assist, ideally kicking off his team’s season.

Despite the mixed results that followed, he was able to maintain his influence on the game, scoring a goal in the 3-4 defeat against St. Gallen, as well as another in the narrow 1-2 defeat against Lugano. Active and impactful on his wing, Diabaté remains one of the most dangerous players at Lausanne-Sport, capable of turning a match on its head thanks to his speed and sense of goal. A player to watch.

The Servettian to follow

David Douline could well take advantage of Gaël Ondoua’s suspension to show himself more in the championship. Little used until now, the Servetti defensive midfielder was able to be decisive during the last meeting, delivering an assist for Kutesa before being replaced in the 52nd minute. With this performance, Douline proved his ability to respond and could play a key role in future matches.

After an elimination in the Cup and a tense match against Grasshopper, Thomas Häberli and his men are ready to do battle in a heated derby against the Blue and White, Saturday September 28 (6 p.m.) at the Stade de Genève, for the 8th day of the Super League .
