For pension fund managers, but also for pensioners and even more for future retirees, the 2000s will have been very complicated. Indeed, the times when ten-year Confederation bonds delivered a yield of at least 2%, without any risk, are long gone.

Since then, the world has more than changed since it has been upside down with negative rates never seen before. Although few remember the explosion of the internet bubble which weighed down the markets in 2001-2002, many still remember the global financial crisis of 2008. With, in , an average return on pension funds (CP) listed in the UBS sample of -12.84%.
