The platform, which connects content creators – mainly pornographic – and fans who pay them to access it, recorded unprecedented growth last year.

A record-breaking year for OnlyFans. The content platform, mainly used for the distribution of pornographic images, generated $6.6 billion (€6 billion) last year, according to the financial results of its parent company Fenix International, published in early September. This is a billion dollars more than in 2022, the company points out, which saw its pre-tax profit increase from $525 million to $658 million in one year.

OnlyFans connects creators, who feed their accounts with content, and fans, who pay them subscriptions to access it. The company assures that “Creators earn 80% of payments made on the platform”The platform’s good results are directly linked to its rapidly growing traffic: it had 4.1 million creator accounts at the end of the fiscal year, on November 30, 2023, or 29% more than in 2022. That same year, 50 million new fan accounts were opened, for a total of 305 million, up 28% over one year.

Over $1 billion in dividends since 2020

Fenix International was thus able to pay $472 million (€426 million) in dividends in 2023 to its shareholders, including Ukrainian-American businessman Leonid Radvinsky, who owns 75% of the shares. Since the end of the 2023 fiscal year, $159 million in dividends have also been paid in four installments between December and March. Since 2020, Leonid Radvinsky has reportedly generated more than $1 billion in dividends, it points out. The Guardian The businessman, who already owns pornographic sites, bought OnlyFans in 2018 from the British Tim Stokely and his father, Guy.

Despite its success, the platform remains controversial, singled out by detractors who believe it attracts young people into pornography with the promise of easy money. Once accused of not strictly verifying the age of its users and not moderating its content enough, OnlyFans assures in its annual report that it is redoubling its efforts to become “the safest digital media platform”.
