Graphic madness at Signe

Sine, the national center for graphics, is joining forces with the Conservatory for two musical shows, on January 18 and 22. Zoom.

Jules Chéret, Henri de -Lautrec, Pierre Bonnard, Eugène Grasset, Félix Vallotton, Adolphe Willette, Firmin Bouisset… On display at Signe until February 28, 2025, the exhibition Imposed Figure shows a wide selection of the collection made up of Gustave Dutailly (1846-1906), and bequeathed to the City of Chaumont. Whether it is technical, social or societal progress, with his collection, the botanist and former deputy for Haute-, draws the contours of a historic shift in French and European society.

In music!

On this occasion, a show will be offered by Signe in partnership with the Chaumont Conservatory around the exhibition Imposed Figure, Saturday, January 18 at 6 p.m. and Wednesday, January 22, at 5 p.m.

In an atmosphere reminiscent of the cabarets of the Belle Époque (end of the 19th centurye century), piano teacher Armelle Joubert and her students will make you hear sound illustrations from the classical repertoire, inspired by the exhibition posters.

Tristan Lhomel, theater teacher, will play the role of presenter to highlight a selection of posters. Solo, four hands or 8, the piano will adorn a work, for the duration of a piece sometimes sung or to a read text. Another way to discover this poster trail.

Namely that “the illustrated poster made possible by chromolithography, under the impetus of painters and caricaturists, seeks itself out, develops – both profusely and confusedly – into a veritable field of plastic and narrative experimentation”. Between advertising and a field of free expression, this medium will reveal many emerging particularities and singularities.
