This rivalry between two artists who quickly achieved immense success is not new, and Mario Pelchat explains that, far from being a natural phenomenon, it was in reality orchestrated by their respective teams, with the complicity of the media.
In the documentary, the interpreter of Crying in the rain emphasizes that he never really felt any competition with the New Brunswick-born singer. However, Mario recognizes that this rivalry occupied an important place in the collective imagination, and that it still persists today, with some continuing to believe in it.

Here is an excerpt of his remarks:
“Roch and I arrived almost in the same years. I was a few years ahead of him, but when he arrived, he zoomed past me like a Ferrari. And we felt, especially in the media, that there was enormous competition between the two of us. This competition was created by the media, but also by the teams we worked with. While deep down, we are just two artists who want to have fun, sing, make music. Ultimately, we discovered that we had a lot more in common than we would have imagined.”
