Alien Weaponry announces new album, Te Rā, and unveils single Mau Moko

New Zealand groove metal band Alien Weaponry are set to mark 2025 with the release of their third studio album, The Daydue out March 28 via Napalm Records. To accompany this announcement, the group unveiled their first single, More Logosand its striking music video.

Cultural and historical roots

Alien Weaponry, known for highlighting Maori culture in its songs, continues to champion traditions, social struggles and environmental resilience. The new single, More Logosexplores traditional Māori facial tattoos, called moko, and their survival in the face of colonial oppression.

Bassist and lyricist Tūranga Porowini Morgan-Edmonds explained: “Māori have a rich history of moko traditions, which were almost lost due to colonization. Today, these traditions are experiencing a much-needed cultural renaissance, and that’s what inspired me. I wanted to remind you that moko is and will always be part of our identity. With the clip, we wanted to show the dark side of this story, in particular the trade in tattooed heads, which almost caused the extinction of this tradition. But we resisted, and we continue to fight for its rebirth.”

An ambitious album with prestigious guests

Recorded under the direction of producer Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Gojira), The Day promises to be an intense and worked album. The title Monsterin collaboration with Lamb Of God singer Randy Blythe, even moves towards a Death Metal style.

Guitarist and singer Lewis Raharuhi de Jong said: “We really pushed our limits this time. This album had to go further. We reworked many songs, sometimes removing entire sections. Musically, we pushed ourselves, and I knew it was just as important to push myself lyrically. This album is shot through with a feeling of existential angst, and I tried to find the right words to express the indescribable.”
