It might not seem like it, listening to her discography, but Jenifer is a big fan of Janis Joplin. The American singer who belongs to the disastrous “27″ clubsang at Woodstock. She also wrote some immortal songs like “Piece of my heart“, or “Me and Bobby McGee”.
And Jenifer knows them all by heart, even if she doesn't sing them the same! This is what she admitted to Léa Salamé, this January 4, 2025, while she was a guest on the show “What a time!”
Jenifer smoked to have a hoarse voice
On France 2, the one who gave a mini concert to viewers of the program, confirmed that she dreamed of having the voice of Janis Joplin.
And for that, Jenifer was ready for anything. Younger, long before joining the Star Academy castle, she was already smoking in secret and screaming into her cushion.
The one who found her style with this TF1 show which made her a star, remembered these cigarettes. And to comment : “My dream, yeah to choke, I really wanted to have the same voice”.
The star also assured that she had not managed to transform her vocal cords – except perhaps at certain times of the morning or night. Christophe Dechavanne then commented: “it’s the craziest female voice”. Jenifer agreed: “oh yes I like it a lot, it's special, but I really like damaged voices”.
This is not the only model that Jenifer had for a career in singing. Indeed, in 2023, she confided to Sud Info, in Belgium, that she also wanted to have “Dalida's grace”.
On his influences
And her influences are quite varied, since Jenifer confided: “I also dreamed of being Marvin Gaye. I sometimes dressed up as a guy for fun and sang in my brother's room where football posters were plastered all over the walls.”.
She then remembered: “I felt like I was performing in a stadium. I always had this tomboy side. I also dreamed of having a band and de faire partie des Sly and the Family Stone”. Today, she is Jenifer, and that’s not bad!
