Why was this album expected?
In 10 years, Kendji Girac has established himself as one of the most popular artists of the new French scene, multiplying hits from “Color Gitano” to the duet “Le feu” with Vianney. The gipsy singer even planned a special album to celebrate his 10 years of career with the public. But everything suddenly changed on April 22. That morning, we learned that Kendji Girac was hospitalized following a gunshot wound. First explaining improper handling of a weapon, the artist quickly finds himself in the middle of a publicized legal case against the backdrop of a marital dispute, and traces of alcohol and drugs are found in his blood. Enough to damage the image of the musician with intergenerational popularity, which will take several months to rebuild.

His mea culpa, Kendji Girac does it through the 12 songs of this new album “Vivre…”, written by Louane, Ycare, Emma Peters and especially Vianney, his great friend. This is the case of the single “If only…” or the title “I changed”, musical apologies addressed respectively to his audience and to his wife Soraya, “ very shocked » by the media coverage of the affair. “ I didn't think I would ever get lost but it happened. It goes to show that we have weaknesses. You shouldn't hide them. When we are fragile, we are human, we have the right to go as low as possible. But what's incredible is when you go down the lowest, the light that you can see at the end of the tunnel, it's wonderful » attests Kendji Girac, admitting to having “ recorded almost every song while crying ».
And in terms of sales?
The question was: after this tragedy which almost cost him his life and enormous media repercussions, was the public going to be there for the return of Kendji Girac? If the signals given by the single “If only…” were rather encouraging, the album “Vivre…” started second in sales behind the rapper SDM, with 16,000 copies sold. Unfortunately over the weeks, without a new supporting single, the record gradually fell in the rankings. Currently it has 59,423 copies sold. A rather timid score for Kendji. Because if he remains the biggest seller in the history of “The Voice”, the sales of his albums have fallen over time, following the evolution of the market. While his first record attracted 1.5 million purchases, “The School of Life”, released in 2022, has just over 150,000 copies sold. Will “Living” rise to the same level? Answer in the coming months, even if Kendji Girac can count on a major tour scheduled for 2026 to showcase his songs.
