Céline Dion's sister spoke to the BFMTV “Ligne Rouge” teams. She talks about how her sister has been fighting illness for years and what she is preparing for the rest of her career.
“This is an example of exceptional courage.” Claudette Dion, the sister of singer Céline Dion, returns in BFMTV's Ligne Rouge dedicated to the artist, on the latter's battle against stiff man syndrome.
If Céline Dion only made her diagnosis public in 2022, Claudette assures that in reality the singer has been experiencing symptoms of this illness for almost 17 years, without really understanding them.
“She already had little twitches. But we said to ourselves, ‘it’s not serious’, ‘it’s a muscle’. We also get up at night with cramps in the calf,” explains Claudette Dion.
The singer's sister nevertheless remembers a significant crisis episode. “She told me: ‘Claudette, come help me’. She couldn’t put her boots back on because her foot was twisted. She couldn’t have control,” explains Claudette Dion.
“His children help him a lot morally”
When the diagnosis is made in 2022, Céline Dion increases the number of return trips to Denver during the year 2023. With neurologist Amanda Piquet, they put in place a treatment protocol to try to slow the progression of the symptoms.
“She told us: 'don't worry, I'm in good hands. Have confidence'”, says Claudette Dion. “She said that her children helped her a lot morally. (…) I find it an example of exceptional courage,” she continues.
In 2024, Celine Dion gradually began her return to public before her striking performance last July during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. A performance scrutinized by more than a billion viewers.
But since then, fans have hoped to be able to quickly find their idol on stage. Is she able to do concerts again today? “I am convinced that yes,” says Claudette Dion. “It's vital for her. I know there's a dormant project in Vegas.”
Recently, Celine Dion made a notable appearance in the audience of singer Adèle's concert at Caesar Palace in Las Vegas. A room where the artist had already performed from 2003 during a historic residency. “She wants to see the stage again and hear the audience again. She feeds off all that,” concludes Claudette Dion.
